Tony Konja Dear Tony, Welcome to the Board of Directors of one of the most prestigious landscape associations in Michigan. By making a commitment to help guide the Michigan Green Industry Association, you have shown yourself to be a person that truly wants to make a difference in your industry. One important thing that will become obvious, upon attending the monthly Board of Directors meetings, is the strong involvement that each person brings to the association. I often characterize it as an "active, participating" board. The ideas that you are able to bring to these meetings, may very well develope into our next "major” project. So feel free to express yourself during these meetings and if you would like to meet privately, call me at any time. I am enclosing a copy of our current Constitution and By-Laws for you to review prior to the board meeting. Each month you will be reminded of the date for the Board meeting, so please R.S.V.P. in order to assist us in ordering the proper food and beverage. When it comes to Supporting the Eight Mile Boulevard Association and its mission, Tony Konja of Artistic Outdoor Services walks the walk... right down Eight Mile Road. "When you're a business on Eight Mile, you want to spend money on Eight Mile," he said recently. "I do tons of business at Home Depot. And Grainger - they're right there, too!” There are two Home Depots on Eight Mile, in Southfield and Harper Woods. Grainger, in Oak Park, sells industrial and commercial equipment and supplies. Based on standard industry classification (SIC) codes, more than a third of the businesses on Eight Mile Road serve other businesses, according to 8MBA Executive Director Sharlan Douglas. Telecommunications equipment, tools, hardware, cleaning products and services, insurance, engineers, printers, vehicle repair, locksmiths, builders and caterers are all just down the street. Konja moved into his Southfield building on Eight Mile in January. His company installs and maintains landscaping, and plows snow for businesses throughout the region – including several on Eight Mile. Konja serves on the Eight Mile Boulevard Association landscaping maintenance committee. He donated his time last summer to supervise laborers who weeded the median gardens. He keeps a handful of 8MBA memvership brochures in his truck and jovially invites his customers and vendors to join the organization - talking the talk too.
